Officials have accepted 23 nomination papers from 16 candidates for the Bagalkot bypolls. The last date for withdrawals is March 26. Polling is scheduled for April 9.

Officers have rejected three nomination papers as they were not in order.

A release from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said that officials had recovered ₹66.30 lakh in cash, 232 litres of alcohol valued at ₹10 lakh and other valuables in raids in Bagalkot and Davangere.

ECI officers and police have booked 12 heinous cases, four breach of licence and 32 cases under the Excise Act. As many as six two-wheelers and two two-wheelers have been recovered.

As many as 201 complaints have been received. Of them, 137 have been disposed of and 64 are in progress.

ECI officers conducted an awareness and training programme for EVM and VVPAT usage in Bagalkot on March 17 and in Davangere on March 18. During the sorting process, political party representatives were present.

The first randomisation was conducted in Bagalkot and in Davangere South on March 18.

Meanwhile, the general observer held a meeting with Election Nodal Officers in Bagalkot recently.

Parul Patwari, the general observer, discussed in detail the work of various nodal officers, measures related to the implementation of the model code of conduct, voter facilities and preparations to be made at the polling stations.

She asked all the nodal officers to discharge their responsibilities adequately and conduct the elections in a transparent and impartial manner.
