Days after the AIADMK lodged a complaint with the Election Commission that the DMK had erected 48 “sheds to confine voters” in different parts of the Karur constituency, former Minister and sitting MLA V. Senthilbalaji on Sunday denied the allegation, describing it as a malicious propaganda to undermine the electioneering of the party.

He told reporters that it was a routine affair to establish party offices in every ward of Karur. Depending on the situation, election offices would be opened in rental buildings. If permanent buildings were not available, temporary structures were generally established for housing party offices.

‘Obtained permission’

This time, the DMK had decided to set up party offices at nine locations by securing permission from the concerned election authorities. It was wrong to claim that the party had erected “sheds” without permission, Mr. Senthilbalaji said. He added that the the AIADMK-BJP alliance was spreading the malicious propaganda in fear of defeat.

The former Minister, also the district secretary of the DMK, said the AIADMK had indulged in mudslinging campaigns in Karur, but could not garner support for them.

He further said that the DMK had implemented schemes to the tune of ₹5,000 crore in Karur district, and expressed confidence that it would win all four seats in the district.
