The Mysuru City Police have barred the public from watching the Jumboo Savari from old and dilapidated structures along the route of the Dasara procession.
A statement issued by the office of Mysuru City Police Commissioner pointed out that hundreds of people stood on old and dilapidated structures, and under-construction buildings on both sides of the procession route from Mysuru palace to Torchlight Parade grounds in Bannimantap during last year’s Jumboo Savari.
The gathering of large crowds on such buildings poses a risk of disasters and accidents, the statement said.
With a view to prevent such incidents this yea, the City Police Commissioner, along with other senior police officials and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities carried out a joint survey of the buildings along the route of the procession in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures for crowd management.
During the survey, the Lansdowne Building, buildings at K.R. Circle, Devaraja Market, Panchamukhi Circle buildings, Horse Stand, and several other structures along the route were identified as old and dilapidated.
A meeting in this regard was also held with owners of the identified buildings, who were duly informed that public viewing of Jumboo Savari will not be permitted from such unsafe structures during the upcoming Dasara celebrations.
This year, the Jumboo Savari is scheduled to take place on October 2.
The statement from the City Police Commissioner’s office has also advised the public against climbing old and under-construction buildings, trees, poles, or any other unsafe structures along the route, and urged them to sit at designated areas to watch the procession.
