The Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with fervour and tradition on Saturday. Muslims exchanged pleasantries with their relatives and friends.

Thousands of Muslims offered special prayers at mosques. Large congregations were seen at the mosques at Yenamalakuduru, Labbipet, One Town and other places in Vijayawada.

Special prayers were offered at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium. Explaining the importance of the festival, Islamic scholar Janab Abdul Mustan Nadvi said, “It was during the month of Ramadan that the Holy Quran was revealed for all mankind. Hence, fasting for the entire month has been made obligatory.”

Hafiz Riyazuddin Sahib, who led the sermon, emphasised that Islam promotes mutual love, brotherhood, and unity among people. Praying for world peace, he expressed hope that people live in harmony.

Muslims invited family members, well-wishers and friends to their houses and hosted feasts. They exchanged greetings, wishing each other happiness and prosperity.

The festival was also celebrated with gaiety at Eluru, Machilipatnam, Gudivada, Jaggaiahpeta and other places.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer conveyed Eid greetings to Muslims.

“Ramzan is a period of devotion, fasting, charity-giving and self-accountability. On this Holy Eid-ul-Fitr Day, let us redeem our pledge to respect the dignity of all beings, the sanctity of life and the solemnity of all faiths.” Mr. Abduz Nazeer said in a release.

Muslim Eidgah Committee general secretary Sheikh Munir Ahmed emphasised that participating in each other’s festivals can reduce social and political distances. He called upon everyone to work towards promoting humanity beyond caste and religious differences.

The committee members thanked the State government, municipal and police departments for their support in organising the prayers.
