Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday asserted that the power distribution companies were ready to efficiently handle 19000 MW demand this summer and directed officials and staff to remain alert till the end of Yasangi and summer.

At a review meeting with officials in the Assembly here, Mr. Bhatti noted that with the Yasangi crop season and the impact of summer, electricity demand and consumption in the State are increasing significantly. He said power network is fully prepared to efficiently handle a demand of up to 19,000 MW.

He noted that the highest power demand recorded on March 20 last year was 17,162 MW. This year, the demand reached 17,606 MW on March 2. Subsequently, with a steady rise in demand, it touched 18,228 MW on March 13, setting a new record with power consumption of 341.08 million units.

He stated that despite the sharp increase in demand, power utilities managed the situation efficiently without any interruptions in supply or issues of overloading. He further informed that the government is taking measures such as setting up new substations, transmission lines, and transformers to ensure that even if the demand exceeds 19,000 MW, there will be no disruptions.

The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Naveen Mittal, Telangana Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, DISCOM CMDs Musharraf Faruqui, Jitesh V. Patil, Varun Reddy, and other officials.
