Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday (March 17, 2026) launched a blistering attack on the ruling DMK accusing it of compromising the safety of women in the State.

Leading a demonstration organised by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at Manjakuppam in Cuddalore, Mr. Anbumani alleged there was an increase in crimes against women in the State under the present regime. The DMK government has failed to ensure the safety of women. The State is being run by an “inefficient” Chief Minister, and his government has failed to maintain law and order, he claimed.

According to him, 7,832 murders were reported over the past five years. This included 1,973 women and 361 children. Besides, around 44,000 crimes against women and 62,000 against children have been reported during the last five years. A total of 27,000 cases have been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO), he said.

Contending liquor and drugs had ruined the future of the upcoming generation, he called upon women to ‘shun’ the ruling DMK if they wanted to protect the future of their children and grandchildren.

He believed the proliferation of liquor shops and 1,500 clubs ensured round-the-clock supply of alcohol had ruined the State. The DMK government’s “achievements” has been ruining the State to the extent that seizure of 2.2 million kilograms of ganja is evidence of a deepening drug crisis affecting even peripheries of schools.

According to him, Tamil Nadu had incurred ₹4.96 lakh crore in debt during the DMK’s five-year rule — nearly matching the previous 74 years — without commensurate development, he claimed, contrasting it with Uttar Pradesh’s lower borrowings. Over 3,000 farmer suicides underscored agricultural neglect, while only six of 55 manifesto promises had been fulfilled.

He appealed to the people to ensure the DMK forfeited deposits in all the nine Assembly constituencies in Cuddalore district. The NDA alliance, he said, would prioritise women’s and children’s safety, quality education, and welfare schemes for farmers and fishermen upon assuming power.

Former AIADMK Minister M.C. Sampath also participated.
