Skeletal remains of four persons were retrieved from a charred car on the Thisaiyanvilai – Aaththankarai Pallivaasal Road in Tirunelveli district of south Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (March 17, 2026) morning.

The identity of the deceased and the cause of the incident could not be established immediately.

Police said passers-by noticed the charred car amidst bushes on a mud road branching out from the Thisaiyanvilai – Aaththankarai Pallivaasal Road at Pettaikulam on Tuesday morning. They alerted the Thisaiyanvilai police. The police found four charred bodies in the car and summoned forensic experts to the spot to collect evidences and identify the deceased.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Valliyoor, Venkatesh, who arrived at the spot, cordoned-off the crime scene.

The police who are probing murder or suicide angles have collected the CCTV footages from the cameras in the vicinity for further clues.

Superintendent of Police V. Prassannakumar visited the spot.
