President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on August 14, 2026, on the eve of the 80th Independence Day. The National Song Vande Mataram was played before the speech, followed by the National Anthem.
In her address, President Murmu said that the Indian economy is projected to grow at over twice the average global growth rate despite global warfare and instability. “India accounts for over half of the world’s real-time digital transactions,” she said.
The President said that it is the duty of every person associated with the judicial system to ensure that no one is deprived of justice due to a lack of resources.
Commending the Operation Sindoor, the President said, “Operation Sindoor demonstrated the Indian Armed Forces’ capability for precision strikes against terror networks. Terrorists and those supporting them will have to face consequences no matter where they hide.”
“Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with country harbouring terrorism a decisive step in national interest, particularly for farmers,” she added.
President Murmu also stated that making India Maoism-free is a major national achievement. She also mentioned the rapid development and cultural participation in Bastar.
This is President Murmu’s fifth Independence Day Eve address.
