Senior Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader K.A. Sengottaiyan has said the party would forge an alliance for the April 23 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu only with those parties that accept TVK founder and actor Vijay as the chief ministerial face.

Following the announcement of the Assembly election schedule, Mr. Sengottaiyan on Sunday (March 15, 2026) night launched the party’s election campaign at Vettaikarankoil and Nanjagoundanpalayam in Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency.

Addressing the public, Mr. Sengottaiyan said several parties were attempting to include the TVK in their alliances. “However, an alliance will be [forged] only with those who accept Mr. Vijay as the Chief Minister,” he said. He claimed surveys conducted by various parties had placed Mr. Vijay at the top of the list and described him as a leader who had left a prominent position in the film industry to enter politics “with the aim of protecting the people” of Tamil Nadu.

According to him, former MP V. Sathyabama would contest from the Tiruppur North constituency in the upcoming election.
