Vellore GH observes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Collector P.S. Leela Alex inaugurated a human chain at Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Vellore to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

According to a press release, students, nuses, healthcare staff, and residents participated in the event to create awareness on prevention of abuse on senior citizens and to encourage people to respect and care for them. The event was organised by the Department of General Medicine and Geriatrics of the hospital.

As part of the event, participants displayed placards with messages on rights of senior citizens and prevention of physical, emotional and financial abuse on them. M. Rohini Devi, Dean, GMCH, Bijin Oliver John, senior assistant professor, Geriatrics Unit, GMCH (Vellore), were present, the release said.
