Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday (March 13, 2026) ordered an increase in the pension for journalists from ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 and the family pension from ₹6,000 to ₹7,500.

According to an official release, representatives of the Chennai Press Club met Mr. Stalin on Friday morning at the Secretariat in Chennai and presented a charter of demands, including a revision of pension and housing and medical insurance benefits.

Medical insurance

Mr. Stalin also directed officials to take steps to provide medical insurance under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme to all journalists holding accredited identity cards. Mr. Stalin also instructed that house plots be allotted in Chengalpattu district through the Tamil Nadu Housing Board for providing houses or house sites to journalists residing in Chennai.

He further advised that a Journalists’ Cooperative Housing Society be formed to facilitate the process. Other demands from journalists will be examined and taken up soon, the release added.
