HYDERABAD

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) alleged that Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar has insulted the national flag by stating in his ruling on the disqualification petitions filed against 10 MLAs who had switched over their loyalty from BRS to Congress that the scarf put around their shoulders was the national flag, while it was the Congress scarf.

Addressing a press conference, former MP B. Vinod Kumar said the Speaker had given his verdict on the disqualification petitions against the 10 MLAs that their actions did not attract the provisions of the Anti-Defection law and based on his rulings the Supreme Court had closed the case. However, the Apex Court had instructed the Speaker’s office to hand over the copies of the Speaker’s decision within 48 hours.

He said Mr. Nagender, who was elected as an MLA on BRS B-Form, had contested the Lok Sabha election on Congress B-Form. It is for the Election Commission now to clarify whether a person could contest on the B-Forms of more than one party and the BRS would address a letter to the ECI on it. He recalled that a few MLAs who were elected on the Samajwadi Party tickets were disqualified after they joined the Bahujan Samaj Party in the past.
