KSCSTE to organise ‘SparkHer’ boot camp for women scientists

Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) will organise ‘SparkHer’, a two-day ‘Research-to-Entrepreneurship’ boot camp for women scientists and researchers, as part of International Women’s Day initiatives.

The programme is aimed at transforming women researchers into technology entrepreneurs. The programme will be held on March 9 and 10 at Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), KINFRA Hi-Tech Park, Ernakulam, bringing together women researchers, doctoral scholars, scientists and faculty members interested in translating scientific research into start-ups and innovation-driven enterprises, according to a communication.

The SparkHer programme is focussed on enabling women scientists to convert research ideas into viable entrepreneurial ventures. The initiative also seeks to strengthen pathways for women-focused start-ups and incubation support within Kerala’s growing innovation ecosystem, said Jaya Jacob, scientist at KSCSTE and coordinator of the programme, according to a communication.

M.B. Snehalatha, Judge, High Court of Kerala, inaugurated the celebrations organised by the women lawyers committee of the All India Lawyers Union. Actor Sarayu Mohan was the chief guest. B.R. Sindhu presided. Principal District Judge K. K. Balakrishnan and Chief Judicial Magistrate R.M. Selmath were among those who attended.

The Kerala State Branch of the Women’s Dental Council and the Indian Dental Council, Kochi branch, together organised a breast cancer awareness programme and screening camp. Meera Gopalakrishnan presided. Parvathy Ajay, Binila Surendrababu, and Vidya Parameswaran attended. The Sthree Sakthi award was presented to Bindu Rachel Thomas.

JCI Ernakulam Queen Bees will organise the ‘Queen Bees Shuttle Tournament’ on March 14 at the Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthra, for women. Beginner-level doubles matches, with competitions in three age categories, namely 18–30 years, 31–50 years, and 51 years and above, will be held. Winners will receive cash prizes of ₹5000, ₹3000, and ₹2000, respectively. All participants will receive e-certificates.

The celebrations at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Kochi campus concluded here on Sunday (March 8). Ernakulam Flying Squad Division DFO K.R. Veenadevi was the chief guest. Winners of various competitions were given prizes.
