Hundreds of unemployed youth, including college students, participated in the job fair organised by the Shivamogga district administration and Zilla Panchayat on Friday. The administration invited over 30 companies that offered job opportunities to youth, including those who had failed in SSLC and PUC.

The job seekers stood in queues to register their names along with their educational qualification documents. A few women were seen participating in the fair with their newborn babies. The representatives of the companies conducted entry tests and interviews as part of the process to select suitable candidates to fill the vacancies.

Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa, who inaugurated the event, stated that no job is too small and that youth can find better opportunities by focusing on honing their skills. He recalled his younger days when he worked as an assistant in a health clinic and as a newspaper distributor. “Many people who occupy prime positions later in life built their careers by working hard in the beginning. The youth should not hesitate to move out of their comfort zones,” he said.

D.S. Arun, MLC, opined that artificial intelligence technology would lead to the creation of new jobs in the coming days. “There is no need to fear losing jobs due to AI technology. Earlier, we faced similar apprehensions over the Y2K problem. However, we overcame that. Similarly, there were tough times during COVID-19. I am hopeful that AI will create new jobs in the coming days,” he stated.

Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti stated that industrialists and businessmen have contributed to the nation’s growth by creating employment opportunities. The youth should make the best use of the job fair to find suitable jobs. “Skill-based jobs pay well. Young people should acquire a skill and excel in it to secure better opportunities,” he said.

SP B. Nikhil suggested that youth should not hesitate to move out of their hometown to find jobs. ‘We need to visit different places and get introduced to new cultures. Those who do not hesitate to step out of their comfort zones will find better job opportunities,” he added.
