The Kerala Government on Friday (February 27, 2026) filed an appeal before the Kerala High Court, challenging the acquittal of actor Dileep and a few others, in the 2017 actor rape case.

The Government has also sought enhanced punishment to the other accused persons whose prison term had been lessened by the trial court. In its plea, the Government further contended that the trial court did not consider many digital evidences pertaining to the case.

Two other accused in the case had earlier approached the High Court, challenging the punishment awarded by the trial court. Of them, Sunil N.S., aka ‘Pulsar’ Suni sought setting aside of the 20-year sentence that the trial court awarded him in December.

In his plea, he submitted that he has already undergone eight years of imprisonment, which is over one-third of his sentence.
