Priyank Kharge meets Anthropic team, indicates Karnataka to work closely with AI firm

Karnataka’s IT Minister Priyank Kharge met Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, on the sidelines of India AI Summit in New Delhi on February 19.

The discussions centred on responsible AI development, digital governance, data sovereignty, and building stronger support systems for AI startups and developers as part of Karnataka’s push to strengthen its deep-tech and innovation ecosystem. Irina Ghose, India Managing Director, and Rahul Patil, CTO of Anthropic, were also part of the meeting.

The interaction also covered Anthropic’s plans for its Bengaluru office and opportunities to work closely with Karnataka’s technology and startup ecosystem.

“It was encouraging to hear about Anthropic’s plans for its Bengaluru office. We look forward to working closely as we build a responsible and globally competitive AI and deep-tech ecosystem together. Responsible AI, digital governance, data sovereignty, and a focused approach to skilling, incubation and innovation support for start-ups and developers were central to our discussion,’’ Mr. Kharge said.

India has emerged as the second-largest user base for Claude, a family of large language models developed by the San Francisco-based AI firm. The company’s revenue run-rate in the country has reportedly doubled in the last four months, underscoring the rapid adoption of advanced AI tools by Indian developers and enterprises.
