The defective and modified silencers fitted to a total of 378 two-wheelers seized during the inspections conducted by the city police during January as part of the National Road Safety Month were crushed under a road roller near the Old Siddharthanagar police station in Mysuru on February 17.

The city police said the defective silencers that had been confiscated during the inspections conducted last month were “legally destroyed”. Legal action had already been taken under the Indian Motor Vehicles (IMV) Act against the riders operating the vehicles fitted with the defective or modified silencers.

A statement by the city police said a majority of the defective silencers were seized by the V.V. Puram Traffic police station. While 200 such silencers had been seized by V.V. Puram police station, the K.R. Traffic police had seized 59. The N.R. Traffic police had confiscated 50 while the Siddharthanagar and Devaraja Traffic police had seized 43 and 26 such defective silencers respectively.

The Mysuru City Traffic police had conducted a special enforcement drive during January to curb wheeling, a form of stunt riding, and other related violations. A total of four cases have been registered this year against persons for performing wheeling.

“Special enforcement drives will continue in the coming days against stunt riding and against two-wheelers using defective silencers, and legal action will be taken against those violating traffic rules,” said a statement issued by the city police.
