The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) Rahul Gandhi of the “systematic sabotage” of parliamentary functioning and undermining of constitutional institutions on Monday (February 9, 2026).

BJP national media head and Lok Sabha MP Anil Baluni said, “It is now abundantly clear that Rahul Gandhi has no interest in meaningful parliamentary debate. His objective is to convert the temple of democracy into a political battleground. His sole agenda is to obstruct India’s progress and damage the nation’s global standing.”

He said, despite being repeatedly given opportunities to speak in the House, Mr. Gandhi “remains fixated on a ‘defame India’ narrative”. He alleged that, fearing exposure of his rhetoric, Mr. Gandhi frequently sought pretexts to evade substantive debate. “By disrupting the President’s address, Rahul Gandhi not only showed contempt for Parliament but also committed a grave insult to India’s first tribal woman President,” said Mr. Baluni.

Conspiracies against PM

Targeting the Congress for its “absence from crucial debates, including those on the Union Budget”, he said, throwing papers towards the Speaker’s chair and “heckling” Prime Minister Narendra Modi exposed its “complete bankruptcy on people-centric issues”. “The audacity to even attempt conspiracies against the Prime Minister within the precincts of Parliament is beyond condemnation,” he said.

The BJP leader called it the “height of irony”, that “a party which signed an MoU with the Communist Party of China now seeks to lecture the nation on security”.
