An inquiry conducted by the Thiruvananthapuram City Police has cleared the Museum police of allegations of deliberate negligence in connection with the hit-and-run case involving actor Maniyanpilla Raju.

The report by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) reportedly states that there was no wilful lapse on the part of the police officials and that immediate action was taken after receiving information about the incident.

The probe, instituted by District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) K. Karthick, found that all prescribed procedures were followed by the police during the investigation.

It found that the Museum police had made attempts to contact the actor over the phone and also visited his residence as part of the investigation soon after the accident. However, neither Mr. Raju nor his car was found at his house when the officers arrived. Besides, repeated efforts were made to reach him by phone as well.

The report also appears to refute the actor’s claim that he had informed the police about the accident. It states that the actor did not call the police to report the incident, and that no officer had advised him to report to the police station the next morning.

An investigation also found that a control room vehicle and Museum police personnel reached the accident spot as soon as the information was received. Besides, priority was given to providing medical assistance to the injured.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on February 6 in front of the Trivandrum Club in Vazhuthacaud. After the collision, the actor allegedly failed to stop his vehicle at the scene and enquire about the well-being of the injured youths. He turned up at the police station the next day, following which he was let off on station bail after medical examination.

The actor had claimed that the motorcycle had hit his car and that he panicked upon seeing the accident, which led him to drive away without stopping.
