The Hulimavu police recovered a huge cache of explosive materials from a densely populated area of the city on Tuesday.

The incident was reported from Akshayanagar.

According to the police, gelatin sticks were being illegally used to break rocks at a 100 X 100 ft site without obtaining the mandatory permissions. The blasting activity was allegedly carried out between 10.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. in a busy residential locality, posing a serious threat to public safety.

Upon receiving information, the Hulimavu police conducted an inspection. During the operation, the police seized 15 gelatin sticks and 30 detonators and explosive material from the site. A tractor and a machine were also seized.

Police said that the daily wage labourers working at the site fled the area as soon as the police arrived.

Following the incident, a bomb disposal squad was pressed into service. A case has been registered at the Hulimavu police station against site owner Chandru for illegally storing and using explosives.

Police officials stated that strict legal action would be initiated against those responsible for using dangerous explosives in a crowded area without permission or safety measures. The bomb squad will submit a detailed report on the source of the explosives, based on which further legal proceedings will be carried out.
