YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday and held discussions on parliamentary procedures and effective conduct of House business.
During the interaction, the Speaker sought suggestions from the MPs on improving the functioning of the Lok Sabha and ensuring smoother proceedings.
The MPs emphasised the need for better coordination and institutional support systems to enhance parliamentary efficiency. They also proposed the establishment of a dedicated helpline for Members of Parliament to promptly address MP-related issues.
Mr. Om Birla responded positively to the suggestion, the MPs said.
YSRCP Floor leader P.V. Mithun Reddy, and MPs Maddila Gurumurthy and G. Thanuja later felicitated the Speaker.
The YSRCP also raised concern in Parliament over “deteriorating law and order” in Andhra Pradesh and sought Central intervention.
Speaking during the motion of thanks to the President’s address, MP Golla Babu Rao said the situation in the State worsened, citing “attacks on political opponents, destruction of houses, and incidents of arson.”
He urged Prime Minister Narenda Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene to restore normalcy. He also demanded enhanced Central funding for the Polavaram project, calling the allocation of ₹3,320 crore inadequate and seeking fixation of the project height at 45 metres.
Raising other issues, he opposed privatisation of medical colleges, stating that public sentiment was reflected through one-crore signatures against the move. He also highlighted unresolved issues concerning the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, including lack of captive mines.
