District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Judge Syed Ziyauddin stressed the need for senior citizens to be fully aware of their legal rights under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. He was addressing a legal awareness seminar organised by the DLSA on Monday, following directions from the National and State Legal Services Authorities.

Presiding over the programme, Judge Ziyauddin assured that all grievances raised by senior citizens would be addressed with appropriate legal guidance and timely support. He emphasised that the DLSA is committed to ensuring justice for elders facing civil issues or denial of welfare services.

Panel Advocate Katta Kalidas detailed the legal protections available to the elderly and explained the facilities provided to them in hospitals, government offices, and old-age homes. Paralegal volunteer M.D. Rafi outlined the legal assistance offered at the Revenue Divisional Office, Guntur, and promised swift resolution of civil disputes involving elders.

Leaders of the Guntur Senior Citizens Welfare Association, including president Kailasanadh and vice-president K.V. Chalapathi Rao, presented the difficulties faced by the elderly and sought enhanced support for welfare activities.

Elders from Pragati, Udayashree, and Kothapeta old-age homes attended the seminar. As part of the programme, the DLSA team also visited the Naveena Adarsha Mahila Mandali old-age home in Prathipadu and offered legal advice to its residents.
