An upholstery unit at HMT Colony in Kalamassery was gutted in a fire on Monday (February 2, 2026). Nobody was injured in the accident though it is suspected to have caused losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees.
The fire, which broke out around 8 p.m., was extinguished by Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Thrikkakara by 10:30 p.m., an official said. Firefighters Gas Authority of India Limited also joined in the operation, a police officer with Kalamassery station said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
