The Karnataka United Security Workers’ Union staged a demonstration in front of Crawford Hall in Mysuru on Tuesday alleging irregularities by the University of Mysore’s (UoM’s) security contractors.

The activists of the Union, which is affiliated to All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC), submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of University of Mysore demanding an investigation into the alleged irregularities by the contractors to whom the university had outsourced its security requirements.

The protesters have sought an investigation by an ‘external’ agency, and not by the university staff.

In the memorandum, the protestors have pointed out that the earlier contractor had been asked to appoint 152 security staff and one supervisor. But, only 125 personnel and one supervisor had been appointed.

Yet, every month bills were submitted for 152 staff and one supervisor, the protesters claimed while alleging that 27 names were fictitious.

Furthermore, the union alleged that the security workers employed in the university were not given their weekly holidays, two days of earned leave every month or washing allowance. But, the contractor submitted bills claiming these allowances, the protesters said. “How could such misappropriation of public funds happen without the involvement of university officials,” the memorandum said.

The union pointed out that a new contractor, who had taken over from November 2025, had not followed the rule of giving preference to workers based on service seniority. About eight workers, who were already working in some other university, had been given jobs in alleged violation of rules, the protesters said.

Also, alleging violation of tender norms by the new contractor, the union has sought a detailed investigation in the matter while resolving the grievances of the workers.
