Developmental projects worth a massive ₹90,000 crore are currently being executed across the State through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said here on Monday. He was inaugurating a newly completed ₹76.13 crore facility at Kundara Taluk Hospital. “During the previous government’s tenure, infrastructure development worth ₹50,000 crore was targeted through KIIFB. “By the end of five years, projects worth ₹62,000 crore were undertaken, and currently, this has grown to projects totaling ₹90,000 crore. Evidence of this progress can be seen everywhere, from educational and health institutions to roads, bridges, and flyovers,” said Mr. Vijayan.

He added that the developmental strides made over the past decade serve as a global benchmark for sustainable and effective public infrastructure growth. Presiding over the event, Health Minister Veena George highlighted the comprehensive infrastructure upgrades achieved across all State health centres under the Aardram Mission. A key milestone mentioned was the implementation of the ‘Nirnaya’ project, which has streamlined diagnostic services across the State. Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal was the chief guest at the event while P.C. Vishnunath, MLA, delivered the keynote address.

Kundara Taluk Hospital, which was started in the 1920s as a small dispensary for Kundara Ceramics employees and local residents, has achieved a historic milestone in its developmental journey. From its humble beginnings in a tiled-roof building decades ago, the hospital has transitioned into a modern healthcare hub with the completion of the state-of-the-art seven-storey facility that was inaugurated on Monday. The expansion adds a new basement and approximately 130 patient beds to the hospital – which is one of the district’s four primary Taluk hospitals.

The new hospital wing features a comprehensive and well-organised infrastructure spread across seven levels, including a functional basement. The basement houses the electrical room, gas manifold, laundry, STP, and a mortuary section featuring post-mortem facilities, two freezer units, an oxygen plant, and a biomedical waste management room. The ground floor is dedicated to emergency care, containing the casualty department with seven observation beds, alongside X-ray and ultrasound units. Inpatient services are distributed across the upper floors, with general and surgical wards for men and women on the first floor, followed by the outpatient department, laboratory, blood storage unit, and CSSD on the second floor. The third floor has the operation theaters and post-operative wards. The fourth and fifth floors provide additional male and female wards, as well as specialised dental and pediatric units. Finally, the sixth floor houses more pay wards.
