Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a ‘mani mandapam’ built in memory of Tyagi Immanuel Sekaran in Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district on Saturday (January 17, 2026).

The CM, who was accorded a rousing reception by DMK party functionaries and public, reached the venue and unveiled a life-size statue of the late freedom fighter. Later, he inaugurated the mani mandapam built at a cost of ₹3 crore by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations department.

The family members of late Sekaran had appealed to the T.N. government to build a memorial, following which the CM had earmarked the funds and given approval.

Ramanathapuram District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, who welcomed the CM and other dignitaries, took them around the mani mandapam. Later, he posed for photographs with the family members of Tyagi Immanuel Sekaran.

T.N. Ministers K.N. Nehru, Raja Kannappan, Thangam Thennarasu, M.P. Saminathan, MLAs Kadarbatcha Muthuramalingam, A. Tamilarasi and others were present.

Later, the CM left the venue to Madurai by road to take on a scheduled flight to Chennai, officials said. Elaborate bandobust arrangements were made in Paramakudi and en route.

Ramanathapuram SP G. Chandeesh and team supervised the security arrangements. The ADGP (Law and Order), Maheshwar Dayal, had inspected the venue on Friday (January 16, 2026).

Speaking to media persons, the family members of freedom fighter Immanuel Sekaran said that they thanked the CM and the government for building the mani mandapam. “It is a fitting tribute to the freedom fighter, who fought for the downtrodden till his end,” they added.

The late freedom fighter, who fought for the Indian independence and against the British rule, later on struggled for the upliftment of the downtrodden and socially weaker sections in the society. The mani mandapam, built in his memory, was a symbol of sacrifice of a great leader for the poor and masses, they noted.
