Will provide security to Banu Mushtaq: Minister

Booker Prize winner Banu Musthaq, who has been selected to inaugurate Dasara festivities in Mysuru, will receive police security. Her selection by the State government has been criticised by the Opposition BJP and Right wing groups, which have asked her recuse herself from the inauguration.

On Friday, Home Minister G. Parameshwara told presspersons that the State would provide security to the writer.

He said that discussions were on to increase the age eligibility criteria in the recruitment of police constables in the State. “We will study what is the criteria in other States. Recruitment to the post of constables have not been done for several years. There is a demand to increase the age eligibility criteria by two to three years. I have directed officials to consider the age eligibility criteria in other States and submit a proposal,” the Home Minister said.
