Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar with members of the Primary Agriculture Credit Society during a review meeting on paddy procurement in Kakinada on September 12, 2025.

Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar on Friday (September 12, 2025.) said that the government had set a target to procure 50 lakh MT of paddy in kharif 2025-26 at an estimated cost of ₹11,852 crore.

“Paddy harvesting during the ongoing kharif season will commence in the second week of October, and the Godavari region will witness early commencement of harvesting,” Mr. Manohar said while addressing the stakeholders of the erstwhile East and West Godavari districts here.

Mr. Manohar said, “In the 2023-24 kharif, the previous government had procured barely 29 lakh MT of paddy. The NDA government has procured 35.94 lakh MT during the previous Kharif, with payment guaranteed within 24 hours.”

On Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy, Mr. Manohar said the Centre had announced ₹2,389 for A-grade variety of paddy and ₹2,369 for the common grade per quintal.

Mr. Manohar further said that the government was committed to supplying fine quality rice to the 41,000 government schools for the Mid-Day Meal programme and 4,000 welfare hostels.

As many as 691 rice mills and 1,234 Rythu Seva Kendras had been roped in for paddy procurement in the Godavari region. “We have targeted to procure 19.50 lakh MT of paddy in the Godavari region alone — 4 lakh MT in East Godavari, 5 lakh MT in West Godavari, 3 lakh MT in Kakinada, 4 lakh MT in Eluru and 3.5 lakh MT in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district,” said Mr. Manohar.

Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman Thota Sudheer, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Manazir Jeelani Samoon and officials from the departments of Agriculture, Revenue, Marketing, Legal Metrology, Civil Supplies, Cooperative and Marketing were present.
