Officials from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday (January 9, 2026) conducted a detailed inspection at the scene of the stampede that occurred during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally addressed by its founder Vijay on September 27, 2025, at Velusamypuram on the Karur-Erode highway.

The officials, who arrived in Karur from New Delhi on Friday morning, had a meeting with officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the stampede, at Circuit House. There were about 10 Home Ministry officials, and they gathered preliminary details from the CBI.

After about an hour of discussion, the Home Ministry officials went to Velusamypuram and inspected the scene of the stampede that claimed 41 lives. The officials studied the topography of the area and the surrounding approach roads and lanes, including the spot where Mr. Vijay addressed a massive gathering from his caravan, his travel route from Velayuthampalayam (the entry point of Karur district from Namakkal) to Velusamypuram, and the shops, eateries, residential buildings, and other establishments near the stampede site.

The forensic experts, who provide scientific support for criminal investigations, used gadgets to measure the site. They took note of the spots where multiple deaths were reported and collected several materials at various locations for forensic analysis. The field inspection that began around 11 a.m continued beyond 2 p.m. The CBI officials, who have been camping in Karur since October 2025, accompanied and guided the forensic experts.
