The Indervelli police on Thursday busted an inter-State gang of ganja smugglers and arrested six of them, including two from Maharashtra. The police seized 5 kg of dry ganja worth ₹1.30 lakh from them.
Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed the gang while they were allegedly transporting the contraband in small quantities on three motorcycles during a vehicle check near a graveyard in Indervelli on Thursday morning.
Those arrested have been identified as B. Santosh (37), Javade Shankar (28), Shaik Khaja (54), from Indervelli mandal, Syed Sabir (26), from Jainoor mandal in Adilabad district, and Girish Vittal (46), and Shaik Arif Irshad (43), from Ahmednagar in Maharashtra. One more accused is at large and efforts are on to nab him.
The accused confessed to procuring ganja at cheaper rates in Maharashtra and selling the same at higher prices in Indervelli and other places for the past one year.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them at Indervelli police station and further investigation is underway.
