YSR Congress Party MPs Maddila Gurumoorthy and Gumma Thanuja Rani on Friday approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), seeking its intervention in two recent deaths in Andhra Pradesh that have triggered allegations of police misconduct and human rights violations.
The MPs met the Commission’s Chairperson and submitted a memorandum seeking a comprehensive inquiry into the death of Gade Sai Krishna and the alleged suicide of P. Kranthi Kumar. They said both incidents had raised serious concerns about police conduct and accountability.
In their representation, the MPs sought an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sai Krishna’s death, alleging that he had been taken into police custody before the incident. Referring to concerns raised by his family members, they said questions remained over his treatment and whereabouts before his death. They urged the Commission to examine whether legal and constitutional safeguards were adhered to during the period of detention.
The delegation also highlighted the case of Kranthi Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide after facing sustained police pressure. Citing a video purportedly recorded by him before his death, they said he had named a police official and accused him of harassment. The MPs requested the NHRC to ensure the preservation and forensic examination of all relevant electronic evidence, including video recordings, mobile phone data and communication records.
Pointing out that allegations in both cases involve the same police officer, the MPs urged the Commission to examine whether the incidents reflected a pattern of abuse of authority. They called for a transparent inquiry, scrutiny of official records and consideration of an investigation by an independent agency.
The MPs said the two cases had generated widespread concern over civil liberties and police accountability. They urged the NHRC to take prompt action to ensure justice for the affected families and uphold the rule of law.
