Actor Ansiba Hassan has suggested a new leadership having conviction and empathy to lead the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) following the resignation of the 17-member executive committee led by Shwetha Menon, its first woman president, at the general body meeting of the actors’ body on Sunday, June 22, 2026.

Ms. Hassan, who had resigned from the post of joint secretary in February 2026 after accusing actor Tini Tom and a section of the members of the forum of subjecting her to character assassination and making communal remarks targeting her, said that she has received justice as the general body meeting realised that the executive committee led by Ms. Menon was not fit to continue.

“Let a new leadership led by actors like Kunchacko Boban, Prithviraj, Asif Ali, Dhyan Sreenivasan lead the association,” she said while stating that the organisation needed a group of people who could listen to the issues raised by its members with a sense of empathy. “The new committee has to take the initiative in bringing actors, including the survivor [in the actress assault case], back to the association’s fold,” she said referring to the resignation of actors including Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambeesan, and Parvathy Thiruvothu from the association after they alleged that the “leadership of the association was with the accused and not the survivor” in the 2017 actress assault case.

She alleged that the executive committee, which stepped down on Sunday (June 21, 2026), failed to present a proper explanation on the gaps detected in the financial affairs of the association. “They were not able to present a proper statement of the expenditure and revenue earnings before the general body meeting,” she alleged. She thanked the members who attended the general body meeting for providing an opportunity to air her views and concerns.

Ms. Hassan, who had filed a police complaint against Mr. Tom for making alleged derogatory and communal remarks her, said that her legal fight will continue. Mr. Tom had rejected the allegations against him earlier while stating that there was a deliberate attempt to defame him.
