Minister for Tourism and Public Works P.A. Mohammed Riyas on Thursday (January 8, 2026) said the widening of the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road could by completed by February 2026. Speaking to reporters in Kozhikode after reviewing the works, the Minister said it would be opened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

According to Mr. Riyas, the road would be a big solution to decongest the traffic in Kozhikode city. “Along with this, other 12 city roads would be developed as designer roads using the newly sanctioned fund,” he added.

Referring to the ongoing infrastructure development projects in Kozhikode district, Mr. Riyas said the National Highway (NH) widening works could also be completed on time. “Efforts were on to address the alleged negligence on the part of the contractors in speeding up the NH widening works in the Vadakara stretch,” he added.

“Along with the speedy constructions, we have given high priority to the safe completion of the projects. The concerns of people regarding various incomplete works will be taken to the authorities concerned,” said Mr. Riyas. According to him, the completion of the Cheruvannur flyover and the Koyilandy bypass could also be completed on time.

Expressing confidence to win 110 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections, the Minister said all the 13 constituencies in Kozhikode district would be retained by the Left Democratic Front. He also claimed that there was no anti-government trend in Kerala.
