Woman found dead in her hut near Vaniyambadi

A 65-year-old woman was found dead with injuries in her hut at Bethakallupatti village near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on the Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) and her gold jewellery, including earrings and bangles, were missing.

Police said the deceased has been identified as N. Pounammal, a native of Bethakallupatti village. Her husband died in a road accident a few years ago and she was living in the hut on the stretch after her three children abandoned her.

Initial inquiry revealed that a few passersby noticed that the main door of the hut was open with Pounammal lying on the floor. Immediately, they alerted Amballur police, who rushed to the spot.

Subsequently, the Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Shyamala Devi inspected the house. Forensic experts took fingerprints from the spot. Sniffer dogs were roped in to get clues. The body was sent to Government Taluk Hospital in Tirupattur town for post-mortem. Tirupattur SP Ms. Devi formed special teams to nab the suspects. A case was registered. The police analysed CCTV camera footage . A probe is under way.
