The Punjagutta police have registered a case against YouTuber Anvesh over allegations that he made offensive remarks against Hindu deities in a recent video.

The complaint was lodged on Tuesday by film actress and BJP leader Karate Kalyani.

Acting on the complaint, the police booked Anvesh under Sections 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

The controversy stems from a video released by Anvesh in which he criticised comments made by Telugu actor Shivaji on actresses’ attire. However, certain references in the video, perceived as derogatory towards revered Hindu figures such as Sita and Draupadi, sparked widespread outrage.

Following the video’s circulation, Hindu organisations staged protests across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, burning effigies of the YouTuber. Multiple complaints have since been filed against Anvesh in Telangana, with some groups demanding stringent action against him.
