Parents of B. Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera, who was allegedly murdered in a ladies hostel in Vijayawada 18 years ago, on Saturday said they were vexed with the investigation carried out so far and had lost hope of getting justice.

Seventeen-year-old Syed Ayesha Meera, a native of Tenali, was found dead at Sri Durga Ladies Hostel in Ibrahimpatnam on December 27, 2007.

The victim’s parents, Syed Yaqbal Basha and Samshad Begum, urged the government to declare December 27 as Ayesha Meera Samsmarana Dinotsavam, return their daughter’s remains, and establish a charitable Trust in her name.

Mr. Basha and his wife submitted a representation to Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja, requesting her to consider their demands.

Leaders of Mahila sanghams and various rights organisations extended support to the parents.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Samshad Begum criticised successive governments and the police for what she termed a botched investigation over the last 18 years. The failure to solve the case, the parents said, reflected poor security for women in the State.
