Hyderabad’s Saturday began under a tight traffic watch as the city played host to multiple high-profile movements and large public events, even as a lighter holiday season offered some breathing space to commuters.

Traffic advisories were issued throughout the day for the movement of the President from Rashtrapati Nilayam, Bollarum, to Gachibowli, and for the Vice President’s travel from Begumpet Airport to Lok Bhavan.

In core city, preparations for the Christmas Feast at LB Stadium, expected to draw around 10,000 attendees and to be attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, added to the planning matrix for traffic police.

Alongside VIP movements, roadworks contributed to localised congestion. In Mehdipatnam, skywalk construction near Rythu Bazaar, which began on Friday, led to the closure of two lanes between Rethibowli Junction and SD Eye Hospital. The restrictions forced buses and other vehicles onto the remaining carriageway, slowing movement along the stretch.

Motorists were advised to avoid the corridor between pillar numbers 40 and 1 of the PVNR Expressway, with diversions routed via Nanal Nagar, Gudimalkapur and Asif Nagar, depending on the direction of travel.

By around 11 a.m., traffic police reported slow-moving traffic near the Joyalukkas stretch, with congestion spilling towards Shalibanda Road in the direction of Rajesh Medical Hall. Alerts were also issued for possible slowdowns at Balamrai Junction and along the stretch from GP Complex and Fathenagar Bridge towards Balkampet Temple Road.

Despite the multiple triggers, traffic remained largely manageable through the morning hours. Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said lower-than-usual vehicle volumes, attributed to year-end holidays and IT sector breaks, helped ease pressure on the roads. “We are not forecasting major congestion at this stage. Diversions are dynamic and will be implemented only if required,” he said, adding that Mehdipatnam was the only stretch under active restriction early in the day.

Additional curbs were also in place in the Aramgarh-Attapur belt following road works near Mythri Hospital, close to Pista House at Aramgarh. The Cyberabad traffic police advised multiple diversions for vehicles heading towards Attapur and Mehdipatnam from Durganagar, Bahadurpura and Shamshabad. Commuters were rerouted via the Aramgarh underpass, Manmohan Singh flyover, Shivrampally Kaman and stretches along the PVNR Expressway, with police cautioning that these diversions could slow traffic on connecting roads, especially during peak hours.

The focus now shifts to the evening hours, when VIP convoys and event crowds are expected to overlap. In Cyberabad, congestion is anticipated between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. along key routes, including the Cable Bridge, IKEA flyover, Road No. 45, Gachibowli and IIIT junctions, coinciding with the President’s visit to the Brahma Kumaris centre.
