M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Tuesday instructed officials to allot shops at the palike bazaar in Vijayanagar through e-auction, in accordance with the prescribed rules.

Mr. Rao said that 79 shops will be available in the air-conditioned bazaar and directed officials to immediately initiate the e-auction to ensure transparent allotment as per norms.

The Chief Commissioner also asked officials to strictly regulate unauthorised commercial activities around the bazaar and ordered the appointment of a separate Revenue Officer exclusively to monitor the premises.

Mr. Rao also reviewed healthcare infrastructure projects under the Brand Bengaluru project. He noted that the existing Srirampura Maternity Hospital is currently a single-storey old building with 30 beds, handling four to six deliveries daily and catering to 200–300 out-patients every day. He directed that the old structure be demolished and replaced with a four-storey building with 50 beds and instructed officials to commence work immediately.

He further instructed officials to immediately begin works to upgrade Moodalapalya Maternity Hospital. The hospital currently has 12 beds and is set to be upgraded to 30 beds.

At the MC Layout multi-speciality hospital in Govindarajanagar, officials were directed to make the facility fully functional and submit a comprehensive report on the required number of doctors and staff, necessary medical equipment and measures to ensure optimal utilisation.

During an inspection of the Indira Canteen and kitchen near Deepanjali Nagar, Mr. Rao stressed the need for cleanliness and directed BWSSB officials to immediately resolve sewage overflow at the site.
