DMK president and outgoing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Friday (May 8, 2026), urged Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to immediately take steps, in accordance with the Constitution of India, for the formation of a new government in the State.
In a post on X, Mr. Stalin said the results of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election have been announced, and the Election Commission of India has released the list of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) elected. The Governor has also issued an order dissolving the 16th Legislative Assembly.
In such a situation, for the elected MLAs to take the oath of office and for a new government to be formed to carry forward the welfare of the State is not only the need of the hour, but also the most important duty in a democracy, said Mr. Stalin, urging the Governor to take steps without any delay in new government formation.
