Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar flagged off a fleet of 65 electric buses of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) in Hyderabad on Wednesday (December 10, 2025).

The Minister said that a survey was conducted for two months to identify areas which were not connected with the public transport facility. Mr. Prabhakar said that RTC bus facility is being provided to 373 colonies from Wednesday, benefitting around 7 lakh people. The Government is prepared to provide the bus facility to the offices in the IT corridor. He appealed to people in rural areas to inform the Corporation’s officials about the lack of bus connectivity.

A total of 800 electric buses are being operated by the corporation and more would be added to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the coming two years, said the TGSRTC’s Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy.

The State government launched the Mahalakshmi Scheme (free bus rides) for women, children and transgender persons two years ago. A total of 251 crore zero tickets were issued to women, who saved ₹8,500 crore, he said.
