No basis for communal tension claims at Thirupparankundram: T.N. BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Saturday (December 6, 2025) said as the administration of the dargah located atop the Thirupparankundram hill in Madurai had not raised any objections to the lighting of a lamp on the Deepathoon (stone pillar), there was no basis for claims that lighting the lamp at the deepathoon could lead to communal tension.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Mr. Nagenthran said: “The dargah administrators had not objected to lighting the lamp on the deepathoon and therefore, there was no reason to suggest that communal unrest would occur in Thirupparankundram.”

Responding to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s remarks that Madurai needed development politics, Mr. Nagenthran questioned why the DMK government had not announced plans for the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail projects in the 2021 Budget. He said the Centre had been sanctioning funds for several infrastructure projects, including the development of airports in Tamil Nadu.

He said the countdown for the DMK government had already begun and expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would come to power in 2026. Responding to a question on Congress leader Praveen Chakravarty meeting Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay in Chennai on Friday (December 5), the BJP leader said there were “clear signs of confusion” within the DMK-led alliance.
