Lokayukta inspector charred to death in car crash in Karnataka

Lokayukta Inspector Panchaksharayya Hiremath (45) was charred to death when his car caught fire after falling into a ditch in Dharwad district of Karnataka at night on December 5.

According to sources, the mishap occurred when the inspector was heading to Gadag after attending a marriage.

The car reportedly hit a divider and fell into a ditch close to Arera Bridge near Bhadrapur in Annigeri taluk of Dharwad district. The impact reportedly breached the diesel tank resulting in the car catching fire. Although local residents rushed to help, they could not save the victim as the fire had engulfed the car before they could reach the spot.

Subsequently, fire brigade personnel extinguished the fire.

Panchaksharayya Hiremath is a native of Muragod in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi district. He had served in Hubballi and Gadag before getting transferred to Lokayukta, Haveri
