Strict vigil across U.P. on Bakrid, police conduct flag march, foot patrols in sensitive districts

Administration in several districts of Uttar Pradesh maintaining strict vigil on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) ahead of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha), conducting foot patrols and flag marches in sensitive areas across the State, including Sambhal district, while appealing to the public to maintain peace and communal harmony.

Special security arrangements are likely to be put in place in districts such as Sambhal, Meerut, Saharanpur, Rampur, Moradabad, Aligarh, Bareilly, Bahraich, Varanasi and Ayodhya. These include deployment of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF), along with CCTV surveillance. Senior officials reviewed security arrangements and issued necessary directions to police personnel.

“Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Range Moradabad held a review meeting with all the SSP/SP, Additional SP, Circle Officers and in-charge local intelligence unit of the region through video conferencing regarding the preparations for Eid-ul-Adha and gave necessary guidelines to the concerned,” read an official statement by the Moradabad police.

Similarly, the Meerut police informed in view of the upcoming festival and to maintain law and order in the district, under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Meerut all the station in-charges of Meerut Police conducted foot patrolling in important places/roads and markets to maintain peace, security and harmonious environment in the district. District Magistrate (DM) Rampur along with senior police officers conducted a flag march on main roads, crowded places and markets in the city area for ensuring the safe conduct of the upcoming festival.

In Saharanpur, the police conducted flag march in Chilkana area. “Today on 27.05.2026, with the aim of conducting the upcoming festival Eid-ul-adha in a safe, peaceful and harmonious environment, Circle Officer Sadar and Police Station In charge Chilkana along with RAF and police force conducted a flag march in village Patni, Budhakheda and Saliri under Police Station Chilkana area. During the flag march, communication was established with the dignitaries and general public of the area and an appeal was made to celebrate the festival while maintaining mutual brotherhood, peace and law and order. The public was also made aware to stay away from rumours, not to share misleading/objectionable posts on social media and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police. The district police is ensuring continuous patrolling, vigilant monitoring and necessary security arrangements to ensure peaceful conduct of the festival,” reads a statement by the Saharanpur police. 

Congress National Secretary Shahnawaz Alam alleged such strict vigil signals an attempt to create unnecessary fear in the society and view Muslim festivals through the lens of suspicion. “It is a new trend that we are seeing with strict security measures in districts and describing Muslim localities as sensitivity by the administration. It is an attempt to view Muslim community festivals through the lens of suspicion. We need social healing through confidence building measures between communities not tight security measures during festivals,” said Mr. Alam, the Congress leader.
