A view of the High Court of Karnataka
The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday accepted the State Advocate-General’s suggestion for seeking views, on the government’s proposed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), from the parties to the proceedings in the PIL petition, which the court had suo motu initiated by taking cognisance of the death of 11 persons in the stampede on June 4 outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s victory celebrations.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Poonacha adjourned further hearing till January 20, while permitting A-G K. Shashi Kiran Shetty to collect the views of the parties to the proceedings and take necessary action based on the views.
The court had suo motu taken cognisance of the stampede to ascertain the reasons which led to the tragedy, whether it could have been prevented, and what remedial measures need to be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
