The Karnataka Lokayukta conducted raids on the offices of the Special Tahsildar, South Taluk, and the Assistant Commissioner, South sub-division, after a Kengeri resident alleged that Revenue Department officials demanded a bribe to transfer the khata of land she had legally purchased.

According to the complaint, Rekha purchased 2 acres and 20 guntas of land in Kengeri village from Saraswathi through a registered sale deed executed on December 11, 2014. She subsequently applied for a khata transfer in her name, but officials demanded a bribe to process the application. When she refused, the officers allegedly declined to transfer the khata, claiming that the original documents related to the land were missing from the revenue records.

Rekha further alleged that khatas for the same survey number had been transferred to other individuals, and only her application was stalled because she did not pay a bribe.

The Lokayukta issued search warrants to the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Lokayukta, directing a search of the Revenue offices concerned. The police conducted searches in both offices, where they recovered the land file pertaining to Survey No. 121. The file was seized for investigation.

The Lokayukta officials said further inquiry was under way and indicated that additional irregularities within the Tahsildar’s office may surface as the investigation progresses.
