Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan, on Friday (November 28, 2025), said the State-wide tours undertaken by leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran, have given a fresh ray of hope for a change of power in the State in next year’s Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai on the sidelines of the 12th year of the party’s formation, Mr. Vasan said in the last twelve years, his party had faced several challenges and had overcome them with the spirit of serving the people of Tamil Nadu. He said the party had been functioning beyond electoral victories and defeats and continued to voice the cause of the people of the State.

“Since July 15, the party has been gearing up for the 2026 Assembly elections. All the 130 party districts had been divided into four zones and meetings had been organised at the zonal, district, and block levels over the last four months,” he said.

On Sengottaiyan, merger of Tamilaruvi Manian’s party

Asked about former AIADMK veteran K.A. Sengottaiyan joining actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, Mr. Vasan said that it was not uncommon in India for political leaders to switch sides, particularly during elections, as a strategy.

Mr. Vasan also said the Kamarajar Makkal Katchi, headed by Tamilaruvi Manian, whom he described as an honest politician who follows Gandhian principles, will be merged with TMC (M) on December 20 at a function in Erode.
