Constitution Day celebrated by various organizations, departments

Constitution Day was celebrated by various institutions, organisations and departments here on Wednesday, and rich tributes paid to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who chaired the drafting committee.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre, University of Mysore, held a special lecture to mark the occasion on the topic Indian Constitution and Contemporary Society, which was delivered by retired judge and Lokayukta Santosh Hegde.

The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore N.K. Lokanath, who said that social changes in the present times by way of women empowerment, progress of the backward class groups, etc., was made possible only by the Constitution.

He said the Constitution of India was not a mere law book enunciating dos and don’ts, but was reflective of the aspirations of the people and democratic values cherished by the citizens. “It is the duty of every citizen to study the Constitution and imbibe its values,” he added.

Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway also celebrated Constitution Day. Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hammed read the Preamble to the Constitution and officials reaffirmed their collective commitment to the democratic values and ideals enshrined in the Constitution.

He underscored the relevance of the Preamble in guiding the nation’s progress and reminded the employees of their responsibility in upholding the constitutional values through their daily work. Similar programmes were held at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd etc.
