Under Secretary to Department of Pension and Pensioners Affairs Deepak Gupta has said that to help pensioners, the Union government has introduced Digital Life Certificate (DLC) which will ease the process and pensioners in uploading their life certificates through mobile application Jeevan Praman.

Inaugurating a Digital Life Certificate campaign at SBI Main branch in Dharwad on Thursday, Mr. Gupta said that the initiative has been taken to help reduce the rush in banks for submitting life certificates and also to prevent people from standing in long queues at banks for the purpose.

He said that the requirement of pensioners being personally present in front of the disbursing agency or getting a life certificate was a major hurdle in the process of seamless transfer of pension amount.

“It has been noted that it causes a lot of hardship and unnecessary inconvenience, particularly for the aged and infirm pensioners who cannot always be in a position to present themselves in front of the particular authority to secure their life certificate. Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners Scheme of the Union government known as Jeevan Pramaan seeks to address this very problem by digitising the whole process of securing a life certificate,” he said.

He said that the initiative is aimed at streamlining the process of getting the certificate and making it hassle-free and easier for pensioners.

“With the new initiative, the requirement of pensioners being physically present before the disbursing agency or the certification authority will become a thing of the past. It will also reduce the unnecessary logistic hurdles,” Mr. Gupta said.

AGM of State Bank of India Umesh Prasad Shah said that the bank aims at bringing 2.20 lakh pensioners under this new Digital Life Certificate campaign during the current year.

“We have strengthened the system so that Digital Life Certificates can be submitted from home or from the nearest centre,” he said.

Regional Manager of SBI Suma G.K., senior officials Ram Mohan, Vidyasagar Dixit, Rupresh Mishra and others were present.

Scores of pensioners took benefit of the initiative on the inaugural day.
