The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), in association with Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), is organising the Dr. M.S. Valiathan Memorial Lecture at the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies auditorium at 10.30 a.m. on November 18.
Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will deliver the commemorative lecture.
Dr. Valiathan, the founder Director of SCTIMST, was also the first Executive Vice-President of the KSCSTE, who laid the foundation for SCTIMST’s evolution into a nationally recognised centre for excellence in medical sciences and biomedical technology.
A pioneering cardiac surgeon, biomedical researcher and a visionary administrator, Dr. Valiathan was instrumental in shaping the SCTIMST’s multidisciplinary structure, fostering indigenous biomedical innovation and strengthening clinical research in India.
The lecture will be a prelude to the 38th Kerala Science Congress being organised by the KSCSTE in Ernakulam from January 30 to February 2, 2026. The KSCSTE is organising a series of memorial lectures at various centres across the State to commemorate the invaluable contributions of eminent scientists from Kerala to the field of science and technology.
