WARANGAL

Telangana Udhyamakarala Vedika chairman Kurapati Venkata Narayana has reiterated the demand for the merger of Hanamkonda and Warangal districts to form a combined district and develop the area under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), stating that the division of the erstwhile combined Warangal district into six districts has hindered development and caused social and political disunity.

Speaking at a press conference in Hanamkonda on Sunday, the former professor from Kakatiya University (KU), Narayana, condemned the previous BRS government’s decision to split the GWMC limits between both the districts, saying it has destroyed the trust of the people. He appealed to the ministers, MLAs, MPs, and public representatives from the erstwhile Warangal to take initiative and merge the two districts before the local body elections.

Mr. Narayana expressed concern over the district’s development statistics, stating that six districts carved out of the combined Warangal district rank among the last 33 in the State. He requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to focus on the development of the district, including the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park, Mamnoor airport, and the IT industry, and to establish the Hyderabad-Warangal industrial corridor.

He also urged the Central government to establish an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the district, which has already been set up in 22 States.
